Holiday cake

There are a few treats that I make on certain holidays that I refuse to make any other time of the year. The reason? Forcing myself not to indulge anytime I desire them (which is a lot) makes eating the sweets that much more special when the holiday arrives.

The 4th of July is one such holiday. Ever since I discovered Barefoot Contessa’s Flag Cake it became a holiday staple. The 4th simply isn’t the 4th without it now.

Let me say though, I am no Barefoot Contessa. Heck, I don’t even have a pastry bag to make my cake all pretty ‘n stuff….and my version alternates strawberries and raspberries for the stripes. But man, is this cake good.

What kind of traditions do you have for the 4th?

Kelli - Seriously, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I’m going to have to try this!! Raspberries are a tradition for my family too…We used to go swimming at my grandparents’ pool, eat raspberries with a big bowl of whipped cream and watch fireworks. Ahhh, the good old days. :)

Alette - Oh Wow, this looks very yummy!!!! I can´t eat any sugar anymore now, cause of the Gastric Bypass. But I would surely love this cake LOL
Have a great 4th July
